Cam View of Beach & Clark’s Tree
On November 19th, 1805, William Clark and 18 of his men visited the site that is now the Breakers. It was the end of his epic voyage to the Pacific Ocean. Clark’s journal records his carving the words “By land from the United States” along with his initials on a pine tree next to the ocean. To honor this event the City of Long Beach commissioned a 20-foot all bronze statue of this windswept tree installed at the edge of our beach. This special tree and our beach can now be seen through our web cam.
The City has also extended the Discovery Trail from downtown Long Beach to his monument and the Breakers. Eventually this trail will cover the full 8 miles of Clark’s path from his base camp in Ilwaco to the Breakers.
